Homeowner planning guidance
Five questions to ask about a new driveway quote
Use the conversation to understand use, preparation, drainage, access and aftercare.

What will the driveway support?
Describe normal parking, heavier vehicles and turning needs. Ask who determines the construction specification and how the proposal accounts for the intended use. Do not substitute an online thickness recommendation for the contractor's assessment.
How will the site be prepared?
Ask about existing material, excavation, base preparation and disposal. Have the contractor explain any assumptions that could change after work starts. Confirm how changes are documented before you approve them.
Where will water go and when can access resume?
Discuss garage transitions, street connections and downspouts. Ask what property-specific approvals may be needed. Finally, request written guidance for curing and returning vehicles to the surface. Availability and timing must come from the contractor for the actual job.
